Baked Meatballs and Tomato Sauce


Baked meatballs and tomato sauce, made with ricotta cheese, as well as a rich tomato sauce that is baked in the oven in a cast-iron frying pan.

What you will need

Tomato Sauce:

1/2 onion, finely diced

1 clove garlic, minced

1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes

2 Tbsp. tomato paste

1 28 oz. can San Marzano or other good-quality whole tomatoes

2 Tbsp. fresh basil, chopped

1 tsp. salt (plus more as needed)

1/2 tsp. pepper



1 lb. lean ground beef (or half beef/half pork)

1/2 cup whole milk ricotta cheese

1 cup Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, grated

1 cup panko bread crumbs

1 egg

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 small shallot, minced

1 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil

Salt & fresh cracked pepper to taste

Shaved Parmesan Cheese

Chopped parsley

Pasta of your choice
