Moussaka

 

A Greek speciality, this luxurious casserole is made up of layers of fried eggplant, meat sauce, white sauce, mashed potatoes and cheese.

What you will need

500 gm eggplants, thinly sliced (soak them in salted water for 15 mins to remove any bitterness then rinse them out)

500 gm minced meat, either mutton/lamb or beef

1 kg potatoes, boiled then sliced thinly

oil as needed

2 medium onions, finely chopped

4 tomatoes, finely chopped or grated

1 tsp garlic paste

1 tsp ginger paste

salt to taste

1-2 tsp black pepper

1 tsp cumin powder

1 tsp coriander powder

1 tsp garam masala

1 tsp turmeric powder

1/4 tsp cinnamon powder

1/2 tsp thyme

1/2 tsp rosemary

4 tbsp chopped fresh coriander

1 cup water (recipe below)

2 cups white sauce

1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, grated

3 tbsp butter

3 tbsp flour

750 ml milk

salt to taste

white pepper powder to taste
