Honey Bourbon Apple Pie

 

Honey compliments the bourbon well in this fall classic

What you will need

2 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

3/4 teaspoon salt

10 tablespoons chilled unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch pieces

1/3 cup chilled solid vegetable shortening

6 tablespoons ice water (maybe more)

4 pounds crisp baking apples (I used Honeycrisp)

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1/3 cup honey

1/4 cup bourbon

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

2 tablespoons all purpose flour

1 large egg, for egg wash

Granulated sugar, for sprinkling (optional)
