Skillet Braised Cod with Asparagus and Potatoes

What you will need

4 (3/4-inch thick) skinless cod fillets (6 to 8 ounces each)

3 cloves garlic, thinly sliced

1 tablespoon capers

1/2 cup dry white wine

2 cups water

12 ounces small purple potatoes, halved or quartered if large

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more for seasoning

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus more for seasoning

1 pound asparagus, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces

1/4 cup torn fresh basil leaves
