Queen Sized Headboard
From pallet wood
What you will need
4-5 pallets
1" and 2" wood screws
Wood glue
1/4" bolts, nuts and washers
A couple 2x4s

After taking the pallets apart, I laid out the boards to make sure I had enough and to figure out which boards looked best. The bed is a queen size so, I cut everything to make an overall length of 64" so there is a two inch overhang on both sides

It can be tinted a range of colors but, for whitewash, it's used as is. I used a hand plane to smooth out the rough edges. Then, I started with 120 grit sandpaper and finished with 220 grit before staining. My wife wanted a whitewashed look so, I'm trying this Minwax water based stain. It can be tinted a range of colors but, for whitewash, it's used as is. I just used one coat because I didn't want to cover the grain too much.

Once the stain had set, I laid the boards back out. Using extra boards on the back as a frame, I screwed everything together using 1" wood screws. I cut the 2x4s to 50" and attached them to the back using the 2" wood screws. Last, i used the 1/4" bolts to attach the whole thing to the bed frame.
