The slab on this table was found laying in the road. I picked it up and took it home. Turned out to be a walnut slab. It was in really rough shape so it took a bit of work to clean it up and stabilize the split. Beautiful piece of wood though!

What you will need

orbital sander, palm router, sharp chisels, block plane

How to do this project

Play
all the previous sealer off

Slab was pretty beat up. I first sanded everything down with 60grit to get all the previous sealer off

. The marking knife allows for much finer tolerance. Once marked, remove as much material with a palm router as possible.

 tight fit.

Clean up your edges with a sharp chisel. Fine tune the size as needed for a tight fit.

Glue and set your inlay. Remove excess with a block plane .
