How to Cook Pasta Al Dente
No one likes overcooked pasta! If you are adding the pasta to a sauce, make sure to cook the pasta al dente meaning "to the tooth" in Italian. To do this, cook the pasta 2-3 minutes less than the package suggests, tasting as you near the finish line. The pasta should be soft but still have a bite to it. This way the pasta will finish cooking in the sauce but still have good texture and not become mushy.

1
Cook the pasta 2-3 minutes less than the package suggests. Taste the pasta as you near the end of the cooking time. There should still be a little bit of a firm bite in the center of the pasta. It should still have good structure and texture and not be mushy yet!
2
Drain the al dente pasta immediately. The pasta will continue to cook while it's still hot.
3
Stir the pasta into the sauce and lightly simmer for 2-3 minutes to warm everything together. This last few minutes in the sauce will cook the pasta to perfection and avoid mushiness or loss of texture.
