How to Freeze Fresh Basil

If you want to preserve fresh basil, a great way to do so is to put it in the freezer! If unsealed, the basil will become brown in the fridge or freezer, but this method of sealing them in oil will keep the leaves fresh and ready for any cooking project.

1
Chop the basil, and choose your favorite cooking oil to use.
2
Portion out the chopped basil into an ice cube tray using about a tablespoon each per compartment.
3
Carefully fill the ice cube tray compartments just enough to cover the basil. Use your finger or a spoon to push the basil underneath the oil.
4
These cubes will solidify in a few hours, but will preserve the flavor of the fresh basil. Just melt the cube into whatever you are cooking and you will have that fresh basil flavor.
5
Remove from the freezer and pop out how ever many you'd like to use. If you are having trouble removing them, use hot water or a knife to loosen the cubes from the mold. Also, using a silicone mold works great too!
