How to Make Browned Butter

Browned butter is so easy to make and is a great way to enhance baked goods with a little extra toasty flavor. It's also fabulous on pasta with some fresh sage.

2 sticks Unsalted Butter

Start the butter melting in a saucepan over medium heat.

As the butter heats up it will form a little white foam on top. Stir constantly.

The next stage will be larger less uniform bubbles across the surface of the butter, and the butter solids will separate and you will see clear liquid on top and white bits below.

After a few more minutes, the bubbles will simmer down and form a foam on top again. Wait until you can see the butter solids turn brown and the butter starts to smell toasty. Once here, the butter is finished browning!

Stir the butter over ice to quickly cool it down to use for baking.
