Quick French Toast
Light French toast, no butter
What you will need
old bread, getting dry
egg(s) - according to how much bread and how many people
sugar, 2/3 volume of eggs
vegetable oil (sunflower seed or peanut)
spices to taste - cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cocoa powder
milk, quantity depends on how dry the bread is
How to cook
1
For sugar, determine how many eggs you'll be using, then measure about 2/3 their volume and put in flat bottomed bowl
2
Add oil to dampen thoroughly, but yield a creamy mix without extra oil, mixing as you add to judge quantity
3
Add egg(s) and mix. Generally, 1 egg is enough for two people
4
Add spices, if you like, and mix well (if using cocoa powder as a spice, not more than a teaspoon per egg )
5
Add milk and mix well
6
Place bread, one piece at a time, turning once and then setting aside on another plate
7
Tip: place one dry piece of bread on plate and stack the dipped ones on it. This dampens it from trickle-down, then finish with pouring the last bit of what's left in the dipping bowl over it
8
Cook on non-stick skillet or frying pan, turning once, as soon as the bread moves when you nudge it (about 60 seconds) Tip: the skillet should be hot enough to make water droplets dance but not evaporate immediately
9
Serve with jam, jelly, or honey and favorite breakfast beverage. Great for breakfast in bed
